How does Hypnotherapy work?

  • Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy that uses hypnosis, a state of deep relaxation and heightened focus, to address a wide range of mental and physical health concerns. Hypnotherapy aims to bring about positive changes in the individual's thoughts, behaviours, and habits by using suggestions and visualisation techniques while in a state of hypnosis.

  • We all have our up and down days, and sometimes our subconscious chatter can be overwhelming. However, if we dwell too much on our inner critic, it can develop into unhelpful habitual beliefs or patterns that can negatively influence your life. Before the session we chat to understand the changes you would like to make.

  • During the session, I will guide you into a state of hypnosis by speaking in a calming and soothing voice and using methods such as progressive muscle relaxation, deep breathing, and visualisation techniques.

Once you are relaxed, I will make suggestions to the unconscious mind to reduce negative self-talk, modify behaviours, change thought patterns, or help you overcome phobias or other negative emotions.

  • Hypnotherapy can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, including anxiety, phobias, addiction, and sleep disorders. It can also help people manage chronic pain, improve performance in sports or other activities, overcome negative habits or behaviours, and help them overcome challenges and achieve personal goals.

Alison’s Story

Alison Morris - Alasana Hypnotherapy

I became a hypnotherapist in 2016, as hypnotherapy helped me overcome many adversities in my own life. It inspired me to share the benefits to others.

In 2010 I drank, smoked, and was overweight (for my size) at 110 kilos. In addition, I had adult-onset epilepsy and suffered severely from depression. Even though I was on anticonvulsants and antidepressants, I still had seizures and was still very depressed.

I had a weight reduction operation that same year, thinking being obese was why I was depressed. However, this was not the case. My depression only got worse, and my life took a downward spiral. I no longer wanted to live.

Hitting rock bottom, I started afresh. With the careful help and monitoring by my Neurologist, GP and Naturopath, I slowly came off all of the medication over a nine month period.

The fog was lifting, and my seizures did not come back. While I was moving in the right direction, I was still depressed. A good friend suggested that I try hypnotherapy, and I was open to giving it a go. The experience was life-changing.

Hypnotherapy gave me the tools and skills I needed to release all the negative thoughts and chatter going around in my head. My depression improved immediately. The success was so profound that it became the catalyst for me to change my profession. If sharing my experience with others helped just one person change their life as I had mine - then I had to try.

I am a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist. Having completed my Practitioner of Hypnotherapy certification in 2016 and then in 2021, completing a Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy certification, enabling me to be a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist.

In 2022 I was accepted as a National Board Member of the Australian Hypnotherapists' Association (AHA). I retired my position in 2023 to concentrate on Alasana business. The AHA has been Australia's premier association for professional hypnotherapists since 1949.

Before becoming a hypnotherapist, I was a trainer and facilitator for many years, working in leadership positions in companies like Optus, Vodafone and Ticketek. I also worked at the Nuclear Reactor, ANSTO, for eight years in a Human Resources capacity.

I have my Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment, Diploma of Training Design and Development, Diploma of Vocational Education and Training, Diploma of Leadership and Management, Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management, Certificate IV in Work Health Safety and Diploma of Work Health Safety.

In 2018 I undertook one of my most prominent personal growth journeys and completed the 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training.
